FreezeFree is a Fixed Anti-Icing Spray Technology (FAST) system that delivers anti-icing liquids to the road surface, which prevents snow, ice and frost from forming a bond to the pavement. The system consists of a pump house for storing liquid chemical and housing the electrical pump system and computer-based controller, electrical and fluid conduits to deliver power, communications and chemicals through the system, and valve and nozzle assemblies that directly apply the chemical to the roadway surface. FreezeFree can be activated manually or automatically and offers a timely response when conditions warrant.
High-risk locations for freezing pavements, such as bridges, tunnels, elevated roadways, ramps, severe curves or other trouble spots, are all candidates for the FreezeFree system. The FreezeFree system covers multiple lanes of traffic and spray nozzles can be mounted flush in the pavement or on the side of the roadway on a guardrail or barrier.
